Every subject area has identified the unique gifts that they can give to our students, and these have been woven throughout the curriculum as the key skills and dispositions that every subject teaches our children and young people. These core skills and dispositions are interlinked with the knowledge and understanding children will be covering as they work through the carefully designed mastery curriculum. From becoming a passionate reader in English, through analytical thought in humanities, to problem solving in science and maths, significant importance has been placed on using knowledge and skills in the curriculum to make sour our students can adapt and thrive in an ever-changing world
Core Curriculum
Alongside the focus on key skills and dispositions, we cover the National Curriculum content using a mastery approach to learning. There is a clear emphasis on the crucial skills and knowledge relating to reading, writing and oracy as these aspects of the curriculum are vital. Students rely on these cornerstones of their education in a multitude of ways at all key stages.
Primary Curriculum
Our Early Years and Foundation Stage (EYFS) and primary students are taught using an innovative enquiry-based curriculum, called Curious City. This programme is based around big questions, which allow students to explore the interlinking areas of the curriculum, leading them on an exciting journey of discovery. This approach allows us to use a combination of experiential learning which anchors knowledge and skills, so that students have lots of opportunities to apply their understanding to different contexts and situations.
Secondary Curriculum
Our secondary curriculum covers a broad range of subjects, and we offer a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications, which have been selected to allow students to follow their own paths on leaving school. The majority of subjects follow a traditional three-year key stage three programme, which allows students to build a solid foundation for further study in the later key stages.
The only exceptions are English, maths and science, which follow a five-year curriculum and do not require options choices. When students are required to choose their option courses in year nine, we offer a tailored consultation programme, to quality assure this process and enable students to make the best choices for their future.
We continually review the courses on offer, to provide the very best experience for the students.
