Reception

Reception is a such an important part of a child’s learning journey, building on any Nursery, pre-school or similar provision they have had, and preparing them to enter Year One at the end of the EYFS (Early Years and Foundation Stage). These formative years are valued at BLC and we pride ourselves on creating an environment where children thrive, both emotionally and academically. Children at BLC are valued as individuals and celebrated for the skills, knowledge and experiences they bring to their classes and our school.

In Reception, the children have opportunities for learning through play and exploration as well as through more formal, structured class and group sessions. This approach to learning is used throughout the curriculum and is complimented by our ‘Enquiry’ based curriculum in which children become different ‘States of Being’ such as Authors, Musicians, Artists and Athletes. During our more formal teaching sessions your child will take part in work on the carpet or in a group session, with their teacher and their teaching assistant, to explore new learning and fulfil their own next steps in learning.

At BLC we place a high value on learning that happens both inside and outside of the classroom and we provide rich and varied learning opportunities for children, in order to support them to fulfil the Early Learning Goals by the end of the academic year.
